Login to your Kali Linux /Debian desktop.
From your VMWare Workstation, navigate to VM > Install VMWare Tools. The disk icon will be available on your desktop.
Open the mounted disk and copy the compressed file, for example VMwareTools-10.2.5-8068393.tar.gz to desktop and then extract it.
Open terminal and navigate to the extracted files directory.
Execute the command below to install:
sudo ./vmware-install.pl -d
Wait till the installation complete. After complete, you can continue to set other compatible properties between VMWare and Debian, such as display resolution.
Tested on VMWare Workstation Pro + Kali Linux 2018.2
